This is a link to a story that Jim Dabbelt did on one of the girls that I’ve been fortunate to work with for quite some time now and that many of you see in training, Chloe Pavlech. Take basketball out of the equation and this is the kind of young lady that I hope my own daughter can grow up to be like one day. You can just hear maturity and discipline every time that she opens her mouth and if you know her you see nothing but class and respect in self and others by the way she carries herself. She’s a good role model for all of our young girls to look up to and the commitment and work ethic that she’s always displayed in improving herself in as many ways that she can is something that all of us can take heed to and learn from. Although biased because she’s like a daughter to me, she really is a good kid and this a good piece by Jim about her.

*A quick Congratulations to Amauria Campbell. Many of you know that she also plays soccer for Summit Country Day and her team won the Division 4 State Championship this past weekend. That’s a great accomplishment to be a part of.

*This is the time of year that I will begin to do my player updates. I like to try to follow all of our girls I am still going to put some of our kids’ solid performances all in  one place. Now forgive me in advance if I don’t put every statistic of your daughters that I see. I make a determination as to what may be worthy of mention. We are all proud of the fact that they are in school, but in this update, I’m highlighting performances – or groups of games – where I see our girls surpass a couple of their averages or have a solid performance within their team’s contest. Also, every school doesn’t update games immediately, so there may be times where I highlight a good game next week that may have been played last night. I can’t search every day, all day for every game played to make sure that this list is current to the minute. I will always go back and make sure I see the box scores of every game that I can find. Also, some of our kids playing at smaller schools don’t necessarily have links to games or update so if I miss something and there is a newspaper article or something that allows me to see a box score, please send it to me so that I can see it and include it. I thought this was fun to last year to see and the feedback was positive so I’ll do it again.

I will be adding our high school varsity players once the season starts.

I’ll always do the updates by high school graduating class, even though because of redshirts and transfers we may have some kids that may be in different collegiate graduating classes.

Boys: (trainees)

I was lucky enough to begin  working with two young men for the whole summer  who are playing at another level of ball. When you are in the gym at least 4 days a week for 3 months (when they’re home over the summer), I guess it’s easy to take the same amount of pride in their efforts as I do with the girls in our program and that I train. I’m going to keep up with them as well since some may know the names and will be following them soon. It’s a blessing to be able to try to combine the teaching and knowledge you try to display and convey to kids with so much ability that are willing to listen and work hard to put it to use.

2010 Graduate:

Nate Mason (Winton Woods)is a sophomore at Des Moines Area Community College. He had 17 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 steals in a win over William Penn JV. He had 22 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 steals in a win over Black-Hawk Moline. He had 18 points in a loss to Missouri State University – West Plains. He bounced back to score 34 points in a win over nationally ranked johnson community College. Even more impressive in the win and the scoring is that he held one of the nation’s leading scorers (over 26 points)to 9 points while scoring those points…getting it done on both ends. By the way, he’s also Markayla’s uncle.

2011 graduate:

Semaj Christon (Winton Woods) is at Brewster Prep Academy. He’s the point guard for the #1-ranked Prep School in the country.  His first game he had 10 points, 7 assists and 7 steals in a win. In his most recent game against 22nd-ranked Notre Dame Academy, he had 17 points, 12 assists, and only one turnover.

Happy (belated) Mother's Day to all of our Moms!

Two more 2011 graduates have accepted athletic scholarships to continue their academic and athletic careers. Ainsleigh Krause, a forward a Centerville High School, and Courtney Christie, a guard from Alter High School have both decided on Mount Vernon Nazarene University as the right fit for them to continue their careers. Both kids played on our U16 black team last summer. Ainsleigh plans to major in elementary and special education while Courtney will pursue elementary education as well.

They are the 17th and 18th kids in this class that plan to continue their basketball careers at the next level. Congratulations to Ainsleigh, Courtney, their families and everyone that played a role in helping them receive these blessings.

*Congratulations to our 9th grade team for winning the TOP FLIGHT SHOWCASE, which was held at Sports plus this past weekend
