- Gerrety, Kaitlyn (McAuley, 6-1 Post Player Attending Northern Kentucky University) Very skilled post player that can score with her back to the basket or facing the basket. Can finish with either hand and can also step out and knock down the jump shot. Very good offensive rebounder. Nice Athlete who can defend some face up 4’s but is better defending on the block. With her skill set and experience she should score more and have a breakout year. Very unselfish and a very good passer out of double teams. Her unselfishness gets in the way of her being more productive. She is the woman’s version of Brad Miller.
- Grandison, Ronni (Lakota West, 5-10 Wing Player Attending University of Massachusetts) Highly skilled and intelligent wing player. She can knock down open shots with ease, and is very good coming off screens or setting up away from the ball. She is not the best athlete in the world, but she makes up for her lack of athleticism with savvy and intelligence. Has decent ball handling skills, but she is not the kind of player who you would run a 1 - 4 set for. She is the kind of player that you can put on the same side of the floor of a good post player because when the post is doubled, she is almost guaranteed to knock down the open shot. She is the female version of Adam Morrison of the Charlotte Bobcats and the LA Lakers.
- Haralamos, Katelyn (Kings, 5-10 Wing Player) the epitome of what hard work can do for you. When she first came on the scene she was not regarded as a top player, but thru hard work and determination she has turned herself into a good player. Nice midrange game and will attack the basket on occasion. She has a nice feel for the game and does a good job of making the players around her better. She could be better on defense, but then again so could everyone else. She is the female version of Matt Harping who went to Georgia Tech.
- Hunter, Sarah (Mason, 5–7 Point Guard Attending Wright State University) The best on the ball defender in this class, period. She can guard 94 feet for 32 minutes. Very athletic and extremely fast. She can get by almost anyone off the dribble, and when she penetrates to the middle she can just jump over the top of guards and shoot right over them. Good court vision and a good understanding of the game. She needs to be a little more consistent from the three point line, and has a decent midrange game. As well as she handles the ball she needs to have fewer turnovers under pressure. She can be emotional at times, which distracts her but she makes so many good plays we can live with that. If she played in more of an open system I think she would be great. Comparable to Derrick Fisher LA Lakers.
- Jones, Almesha (Hughes, 5-7 point Guard Attending Morehead State University) The perfect guard to run a team. Very quick and explosive, with excellent handles. She appears to have the ball on a string at times. She is an excellent passer in transition, and in half court sets. Very unselfish, almost to a fault. She would demand far more respect from defenses if she shot the ball more. She has a very high basketball IQ, but gets careless at times because of her high confidence and extraordinary ball handling skill set. She is a very confident player which is a plus. She is good on defense, but can gamble a little too much. She is the best point guard in the city regardless of class. The female version of Kenny Smith……The one at North Carolina, not Houston or TNT
- Lang, Shakeira (Princeton 5-8 Combo guard) Very streaky shooter who when she gets hot can stroke it with the best of them from well beyond the three point line. Fearless player, who won’t back down from anyone, and that is the main reason I like her. Very nice handles and a very good floor leader. For some reason she has been under the radar but she has an excellent opportunity to shine some light on her this year at Princeton. Some question her attitude when things don’t go her way. We will see this year as she will be put in the position to be the leader of a very talented Princeton team. She needs to get stronger and more solid on defense. The female version of Brandon Jennings of the Milwaukee Bucks.
- Malot, Ally (Middletown Madison 6-2 Wing / Post Player Attending University of Dayton) Without a doubt, the most versatile and skilled player on the list. Can be equally effective playing on the post or out on the wing. Very long and athletic and just glides up and down the floor. Can make open threes, or can put the ball on the floor and go off the dribble. Nice rebounder and decent defender. Mainly because of her height and length. The only area of improvement needs to be strength. I have seen her play on numerous occasions and she got pushed around at times. Not a big deal however because all high school kids need to get stronger. I would be shocked if she didn’t have a great career at The University of Dayton. Very comparable to………who else, Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Mavericks.
- Matthews, Kelsey (Indian Hill 5-8 Combo guard) Very athletic and plays with a high motor all of the time. As well as being good in basketball, Kelsey is also a very accomplished tennis player. She is the straw that turns Indian Hill’s drink. Kelsey is very good at scoring the basketball and has a good understanding of the game of basketball. She is very aggressive and feisty and will not back down. She is one of those kids that when you see her you don’t think she is a player, but when she gets on the court she can easily give you 15 to 20 points a game. Nice three point shot, but is more of an off the dribble type of player. Very good at attacking seems and penetrating defenses. She is the female version of Kirk Hinrich of the Chicago Bulls.
- McKee, Nikki (Wyoming 5-9 combo guard / wing player) Cincinnati, say hello to the most underrated star in the area. Nikkie is a very, very, good basketball player and it is a shame that more people don’t mention her name when they mention the top players in the area. It has to be because she attends Wyoming which is a smaller school in a smaller division. The first time I saw her play, the team was playing a box and one on her, and she was still causing fits. She is very good at getting to the rim and scoring or scoring from the perimeter. She can put it on the floor with either hand and has a high basketball IQ. She does not force the issue when pressured, and pretty much just takes whatever the defenses give to her. Quicker than what she looks like and faster as well. She is the female version of Devin Harris of the New Jersey Nets.
- Moore, Jonessa (Mt Healthy 6 -1 Post Player Attending Ball State University) the most athletic post player in Cincinnati. Very long and wiry. Post up very strong and demands the basketball as well as anyone I have seen the last few years. Is almost unstoppable from the right block. Can run the floor like a wing player and finish at the rim like an accomplished post player. Jonesha has the unique ability to control a game from the defensive position like no other player in the Cincinnati area. She can get double doubles with points and blocks, just as easy as with points and rebounds. We should call her the human fly swatter. She has a variety of post moves, and when focused is almost impossible to stop. To be more effective she has to expand her offensive game, and learn how to be effective facing the rim. Jonessa is the Cincinnati version of Britney Griner.
- Newton, Brielle (Hughes, 6-0 Post Player Attending Kentucky State University) The next best thing to Jonessa Moore in the city. Very long, athletic, and scrappy. Very raw on offense but has the ability to score around the rim. Just like Jonessa, she needs to expand her offensive game. Brielle has very good hands and is also a very good rebounder. Once she gets her hands on the ball it is pretty much a done deal. Has the ability to change and distract a lot of shots around the rim. She does a good job of getting under the skin of opponents by virtue of her aggressiveness defensively and offensively. Has a knack for coming up with loose balls and runs the floor very well. She is the female version of Anderson Varejao of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
- Reynolds, Kathryn (Mount Notre Dame 5-9 combo guard Attending University of Iowa) Very intelligent and skilled player who can be equally effective at the point or the off guard position. She is the master of the two dribble pull up jump shot. Very good at catching and shooting, as well as running off screens and knocking downs shots from every conceivable angle. I am not sure there is a better pure shooter in the state. I have played her in horse before and I’m not telling you who won. Maybe the best trait she has is that she is very competitive. She is a true gym rat. One of those rare kids that you have to kick out of the gym. She hates to lose and will do whatever it takes to win. The only thing needed to make her a complete guard is improvement on the defensive end of the court. She might have a little trouble guarding very quick point guards, and may be a little small to guard the bigger stronger off guards. However, what she brings to the game mentally and physically is so strong, I am really nit-picking. She is the female version of JJ Redick
- Singletary, Dominique ( Hamilton 5-9 Combo Guard Attending Xavier University ) OK where do I start….Easily the most elusive player in the 2011 class in Southwest Ohio. She could be player of the year in Southwest Ohio if she was on a team that won more games. Great handles with both hands, can stop and start on a dime, can hit threes, midrange shots, and get to the rim. I have seen games where she has just plain been unguardable. If she was at a more competitive school she would be mentioned as a legitimate Ms. Ohio Candidate. She can score almost at will when she is focused. Good passer and also has a good understanding of the game. Defensively she can be as good as she wants to be when she wants to be. Sometimes I wonder if defense is a priority for her. In order to complete her game she has to value the basketball more. Sometimes she can get careless with the ball and shoot ill advised shots, or have unforced turnovers. Other than that she is a very good player, and the sky is the limit. She is the female version of Montae Ellis for the Golden State Warriors.
- Williams, Neschelle (Princeton 6-0 Post Player Attending Ball State University) Very strong bodied physical post player. Can rebound very well, and can defend very well. She runs the floor well and plays very good position basketball. She definitely is a presence when she is on the floor. She always seems to be where she is supposed to be when she is supposed to be there. She can be the missing piece to get Princeton to a state championship. She would be very good if she did a better job at finishing at the rim. She misses too many chip shots. At times it seems as if she is doing the old Moses Malone routine……missing on purpose, and getting her own rebounds to pad her rebounding stats. If I didn’t know any better, I would swear she was Kendrick Perkins daughter of the Boston Celtics. So needless to say she is the female version of Kendrick Perkins of the Boston Celtics.
Finest Five that did not quite make the list but were heavily considered
**** Shaquia Stokes (University of St. Louis) and Karen Nelson are recovering from ACL Surgeries and are players that very well would be on the list if they were 100% healthy.
****Morgan Donovan (Ursuline), Logan Ware (Kings) Britney Williams (Summit Country Day).
